MINISTRIES OF HLM

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me,
I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
-- Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:35-36

Hope of Life Ministries is founded with a spirit to reach the unreached and underprivileged poor people of India and different parts of the world with the love of Jesus Christ.

This organization with its well-organized team is determined to give ‘hope of life’ not only by preaching and teaching of the gospel but also serving the poor of the society by stretching its hands to their tremendous needs in spite of its social, religious and cultural living.

CURRENT PROJECTS:
The projects of HLM are aimed at the poorest of the poor, concentrating on women and children in village areas. Our goal is to help the poor to attain hope with dignity. Towards the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005 HLM stepped in to start several projects. They are:

  • Financial aid to school children: As a first step, HLM started monetarily helping few poor children for their educational needs as their parents couldn’t afford to pay school fees or buy books and uniform for them. In 2004 HLM gave Rs.500/- each for 10 children from 5th grade to 10th grade. In 2005 HLM took the same endeavor and henceforth gives all the honor to God for enabling to give the same amount for the really needed kids.

  • Shalom Tailoring school: Most of the young women in villages do not get opportunity to pursue any kind of job. To help such women, HLM has started a tailoring school in Chennasandra, Bangalore in order to create job opportunities for young women. Without any fees from the students it gives a 3-month training to 10 students. A well-qualified tailoring teacher takes classes for 5 students at a 2-hour duration every day. At the end of the course a Certificate in Diploma is given to each student.

  • Beracha Bhavan/Child care centre: In 2004 we started a child care centre by taking nine children from very poor families in Chennasandra village. There are much more poor children who wander here and there without proper care, proper schooling, proper clothing and proper food from their families who live in and around the village. We are very much unable to take more than this, because we don’t have any building or other facilities to provide them. Currently these children are living with one of our native missionary, who is living in a small house.

  • Feeding programme: HLM had the privilege to do this programme after seeing people not having hygienic and nutritious food. Every alternative month food for about 100 people is given. HLM has arranged a cook who comes from the City to prepare food for the really needed people.

  • Clothes distribution: HLM has also undertaken the responsibility to distribute clothes to poor and destitute people in villages. Once in a year normally during Christmas this is being done.

  • Church Planting: HLM has also a pioneer work in Banglore. More than 50 people gather every Sunday to worship God. These people had never ever before known about Jesus Christ and His immense love. Coming into the faith has tremendously changed their life from myths, superstitions and had stabilized the life. HLM is planning to have more love oriented churches in the near by villages. At present the worship is held in one of the church member's house because to buy a building or to build a church is very expensive.

Adopted villages of HLM:
In 2005, Hope of Life ministries adopted three small villages in Bangalore, India to bring forth the projects with its limited resources. They are:

1.Rampura – This village is a home to more than 1000 families, mostly low caste people. They work for the high caste people mainly in agriculture. Their children are not sent to school, as they need to work with their parents. Moreover children of the low caste people are not allowed to be in the school of high caste kids. Sanitation and water are the most needed facilities in this village. The people are very pious, religious and lovable. There are four big temples. They have weekly and monthly festivals of different kinds.

2.Chennasandra – More than 500 families inhabit this village. This is a village where upper caste people live. The main occupation is cultivation. The people groups in this village include Lingayathus, Gowdas, Bobys and Reddys. People here are very kind, generous and helpful.

3.Jimthimmanahalli – This village has more than 600 families. The major group in this village is Bobys they don’t have much education and they live in poverty. The young girls have no opportunity to learn or work. They go out for gazing sheep and cows. Primary necessities like proper housing; clothing, food, sanitation and water are not at all available. There are a lot of orphans and they are left behind because of the social and cultural myths, and also there are a lot of young women who remain unmarried, as their parents don’t have the money to get them married.

UPCOMING PROJECTS:
HLM also has plans to start several other projects to uplift the weaker sections of the society. The following are the projects, which HLM would like to start in the near future: They are

• Widow Homes
• Old age homes
• Medical camps
• Financial aid to young women for marriage.

GOALS AHEAD:

• Financial and social help to build homes.
• Providing drinking water in villages
• Educational Institution for the village children.
• Aids counseling

OUR MOTIVATION:
India is a nation full of diversities and the people are devotees of more than 33 Crore (330 million)gods and goddesses. They are under the bondage of myths and superstitions. Caste-system still prevails in the remote areas and there is a dominance of the rich upper caste people over the poor lower caste people. Moreover, basic amenities also lack in these areas that makes life more difficult for the downtrodden and the poor. These kinds of situations make their life vulnerable and they loose hope in life and resort to suicide and crime.

This is our prime motivation when we started ‘Hope of Life Ministries’ where we are mainly focused to give the hope of life to the oppressed and poor through the life of Jesus Christ.

One of our dedicated native missionary Pr. Jeevan Sam and his family had a calling from the Almighty God to be in Bangalore. He traveled across these villages and God enabled him to impart His love to these kind, lovable, pious and generous people. Some of our HLM board members had the opportunity to see over the situation in these villages.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
